Last year, one of my friend was living in Hamburg so with I went to visit her with my two friends. First thing that she offered us was Astra Beer, we had more Astra Beer than water in that 2 days. We had a great weekend.

We didn’t have a plan so we just went out and started to explore the city. In winter time you can find Glühwein sellers in each corner. Glühwein is the mixture of red wine, cinnamon stick, sugar, oranges and cloves. It is warm wine and you can drink it while you are going around.
Before going, I was so excited that I was going to eat Frankfurter and drink German Beer. Yes, I had a lot of German Beer but not too much Frankfurter. When we think about German food, it is more likely to think about German sausage (Frankfurter) but Hamburg has more canals than Amsterdam and Venice combined that is why in Hamburg sea food is much more common than sausages. We had delicious fish and also different kinds of sea food.

If you like to watch movies about cooking, first of all, you need to watch Soul Kitchen and it was filmed in Hamburg. You can see the “Soul Kitchen” restaurant in the south side of the city so first, you need to pass Elbe river. There is a tunnel that connects central Hamburg with the docks and shipyards on the south side of the river Elbe. You can pass from Elbe Tunnel which is 426 meters long tunnel and it is 24 meters beneath the surface. You may feel a little claustrophobic because walking through the tunnel knowing that you are under the river can make you stressed. This tunnel was opened in 1911, it is one of the best places to see in Hamburg.

At night we went to Schanze district where you can find cafes, pubs and restaurants. It is really trendy district with full of friendly people. You can also enjoy shopping in stylish stores.
On sunday we visited the Historic Fish Market, it has been 300 years that Hamburg has this tradition. On sunday mornings around 5 am, people start going to fish market, in the afternoon you can also enjoy live music with beer and fish. Like I mentioned before, sea dishes are really important in Hamburg. Every sunday it is full of people, you can also buy fruits and vegetables from there. If you are in Hamburg for the weekend, do not miss this sunday morning parties.

When I was coming back from Hamburg I bought a bottle of Glühwein, you just need to warm it up before drinking. And close to Fish Market there are lots of souvenir stores where you can buy little presents for your friends. Of course 2 days trip is not much but we had so much fun, ate good food and visited cool places. Hamburg can be a good idea for a weekend trip, I am sure you will enjoy a lot.
