Pasteis de Belem

Pasteis de Belem

I’m here to tell you all about a magical city. I refuse to talk about touristic places (you’ll need no help to find those). But I do want to talk about its magic.
Lisbon has its own light, every single stone in the floor reflects the sun which makes the city sparkle, this is the first thing I love in Lisbon. Even the darkest building falling apart, ruined by time looks bright in a sunny day. The river, Tejo, that saw many sailors leave and their wives waiting for them throughout the time joins along and from every hill you will see it shining.

One of the must do, is going to Pasteis De Belem, eat and buy as much as you can. You will not taste something better in your life. It is a Portuguese egg tart pastry, really common in Portugal. Also canned fish is delicious and famous, Portuguese Vinho Verde pairs well. Canned fish is also a souvenir because each can is designed differently and they are colorful even if you do not like fish you can keep or collect all cans.

The best month in Lisbon is June, everyone is happy and the whole city gets dressed in colorful ornaments for the popular celebrations. The weather gets warmer, yet you can walk around without melting, and everyone seems to be in a festive mood. Feel free to get lost in Alfama following the sound of “Bailaricos” and dance, everyone will, from the youngest to the oldest.
If you can walk please walk, if not, take the train (electrico) to visit the city, go to all the miradouros where you will get breathtaking sea sights.

Portuguese people are in general quiet and with a dark sense of humor. Love red wine (and in Portugal we have great wine) and also beer, before going you should choose either the brand Sagres or Super Bock. Choose wisely, no one will let you change your mind after you make that decision. It is like having a football team by the way choose a football team before going, too.

Remember everything that is in your table, if you eat it, you will pay for it in the end.
Try to go to a night of Fado, even if you don’t like it, the experience is priceless. Have fun in Lisbon and talk to all the people in the street, everyone likes to chat especially if you need to find your way. So, you are always welcome to Lisbon.
